20 MORE RHYMING RIDDLES FOR FANTASY RPGS

As a follow-on to this popular post, here are twenty more rhyming riddles that I hope you will profit from reading. As before, the answers are in the first comment.

1. I never end; I never start;

Your finger pierces through my heart.

2. If you’re vain when you see me,

I might make it worse.

If I turn you to stone,

Then your gaze is a curse.

3. I’m partially chimera,

Part manticore, part gryphon.

Though no one calls me monster,

My cry makes all hearts stiffen.

4. I ride on a horse with the might of a horse

With the shape of a horse and the height of a horse

But scaled like a fish is--and legless, of course.

5. Four and one will lift a torch’s light

Eight and two can make a fire that’s bright

Ten contend to keep the time, and all

Asleep and curled together join a brawl.

6. I change to your size in a pinch;

By nature, my job is a cinch.

7. If I

Should ever stop drinking, I die.

If you

Should see me start breathing? Then, too.

If we

Need neither to eat, set me free.

If not

I trust that at least we have fought.

8. I burrow and then reappear;

I have an eye but not an ear.

My tail grows long without an end

And everything I pass, I mend.

9. I once was a drink

And will be a drink.

Now I'm in a drink.

What am I, you think?

10. I dance on a bottle top, dropping

And spinning until I stop stopping.

11. I might say “shout” so few can hear,

But shout me and I disappear.

12. A slice of you that’s often found

Along a wall or on the ground.

13. There goes Mister Shambleshanks, alone

The undertaker of a single bone.

14. I always fill an empty sack

And I am what the richest lack.

I’m all the sins the mute confessed

And I am better than the best.

15. I’m the end of land or sea

That stretches far as you can view

But though you row or run to me

I’ll always stay ahead of you.

16. Mrs. Four-Pairs,

Madame Boneless,

Mistress Inky,

Princess Bald,

Joan the Bending,

Mary Blending...

What’s the name by

Which she’s called?

17. Four out of thirty are sharper than others

All dressed in white, flanking eight of their brothers.

18. Just two windows in the topmost floor. But hark!

Close them and the entire world goes dark.

19. When I’m shrunken, I’ll sweeten your bread--

But not yet.

When you’re drunken, I’ll go to your head--

But not yet.

I will clean things the best they can get--

But not yet.

I’ll be spread for your bread when I’m set--

But not yet.

Fool ensnarer
